2009-12-04 - Holiday Fund, Toy Drive and Adopt-a-Family Programs Up and Running
The Holiday
Fund has launched its
campaign to raise funds for the needy for the 2009 holiday season. The Fund reaches out to help families and individuals experiencing financial
problems and seniors spending the holidays alone and has set a goal of $20,000 for 2009. As of early December we have reached 40% of our goal which is a great start. If you would like to contribute to this fund please click here for more information.
This year, United Way
of North Essex is also hosting a special holiday toy drive benefiting the children
of the WIC Program. WIC is a free
supplemental food program that services over 400 women, infants and children in
our area. The program provides nutritious foods, nutrition counseling, health
care referrals and breastfeeding support at no cost to income eligible clients. The children whose families participate in
the WIC program need your help to have a happy holiday this year.
The Toy Drive began December 2, 2009 and will run through December 16, 2009. We are
asking anyone interested in participating to make a donation in the toy bin
located in the United Way of North Essex Office at 60 South Fullerton Avenue between
the hours of 9:00 AM and 5:00PM. Please
drop off unwrapped toys for children between the ages of 1 month and 5 years
old.
In addition, as in previous years, United Way of North Essex
will be hosting an Adopt-A-Family program for the 2009 holiday season. Clubs, families, individuals and other groups
are invited to participate. The adopted families will need everything from food
to clothing to toys to other necessities for the holiday season. Thanks to members of our community, last year
United Way was able to provide a Happy Holiday for over 40 families in the
North Essex area. If you are interested
in adopting a family, please contact us by December 16, 2009.
